Again, no nightly row this week, owing to odd sleeping times for the resident hobbits–and one cannot row with some of them awake. Miss M, in particular, wants to sit on your lap as you’re rowing. Ever tried rowing with a 2 year old on your lap? It’s pretty impossible.
Still, we did manage 5.7 miles for an overall mileage of 27.2.
Catching up a bit… and not sure where the Lady of Shalott figures into all this, except that I thought this post needed a picture… and she has a boat… and seems to be traveling at my pace this week….
Last Friday I mentioned another mile was added to our roster but I was mobile blogging and so hadn’t figured out exactly where that put us on our fictional map–except .75 miles from the door of the Green Dragon Inn, Bywater.
Weeks 2&3: This week we add 3.17 miles to that .75 to come up with 3.92 miles since our last real check-in. Total miles traveled: 8.67
Roughly, according to the atlas, that means we’ve reached the Great East Road and are approaching the Three-Farthing Stone, the significance of which escapes me at the moment. So much for my boasted Tolkien geekery.
I just wrote and lost a whole post about this past week. I will try to recover it later. Suffice to say we didn’t row much to Rivendell this week– just 1 mile— but that is because we were busy getting ready to go here:
But you’ll have to wait until I recover the post to find out why.
“You hear that, lads? He says we’ll blunt the knives!”
In honor of today’s event, I wanted to dust off the old thread wherein I kept track of our walking miles by following the Fellowship’s Quest to Rivendell. But I’ve started the Walk to Rivendell challenge twice and never get past the Midgewater Marshes before something happens to derail me. Good thing it wasn’t up to me, then, or else the Ring would have been captured and all would be lost. 😉 So I’m doing something new now. Haus Meister and I have been working on the rowing machine lately and I’ve figured out a rough conversion of strokes into miles. My amount is the sum of what we accomplish together as we try to get the hang of rowing before he finishes building the rowboat (actually, he has the hang of it. I don’t.) SO, this time around we are ROWING to Rivendell, and this time I’m keeping track using the Hobbit Challenge.
