I want to thank any and all of you who contacted your Senators regarding the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. We learned today around 12:30pm that it narrowly missed ratification. The relief in this Haus was palpable! I know that this is at best a breathing spell, that we will undoubtedly be asking for your help again perhaps in the near future (say, January 2013) when the new Senate reconvenes or even later on during these next four years. But today in this country 38 people voted against a treaty that while granting aid to some, would invariably be throwing our disabled children under the bus as it were, and 38 stood against it. They have the gratitude of a mother’s heart tonight.
