Small Successes: Home Away from Home Week 2

It’s important for moms to recognize that all the small successes in our days can add up to one big triumph. So on Thursday of each week, we do exactly that.

It’s sometimes a bit hard writing out the good things that happened while writing from a new place.  For instance, most of the things I had hoped to accomplish never came to pass, or then there were just any of a myriad of little inconveniences that I see as failures rather than challenges.  Ever have a week like that?  However, good has been done here.

1) We’ve finished all our assignments every day, no matter how much more fun it is to simply PLAY at Grandma & Grandpa’s house.

2) My potato soup turned out wonderfully.  Coming less than 24hours after the cookie fiasco mentioned in the previous post, my self-confidence is somewhat restored.  Truthfully though, it wasn’t that big of a deal.  😉

3) I completed some early Christmas shopping–two main presents for two members of our cast of family characters.  I do not like waiting until the last moment to do this, especially since last year we had colds and croup running through the family from Thanksgiving through New Years.  Besides, I’m just like that.  We were at Home Depot the other day and the employees were just starting to put out the Christmas trees and the ubiquitous inflatable yard decorations.  The boys were quite excited to see the lights and I confess I quite relished the peaceful Christmasey feeling you get from seeing the trees and trains and wreaths… Albeit far too early, it’s much better than having to rush the kids past the macabre Hallowe’en decor.  Ugh.  Can’t wait for that to go away.

  1. Getting things done away from the comforts of our own homes can be difficult. Congrats on your successes this week and keep looking for the positive in each day. God blesses us with the little things….
